Happy New Year! May 2012 Bring Forth Massive Success

Every man should be born again on the first day of January. Start with a fresh page. Take up one hole more in the buckle if necessary, or let down one, according to circumstances; but on the first of January let every man gird himself once more, with his face to the front, and take no interest in the things that were and are past. ~Henry Ward Beecher

Have a Great Memorial Day and Holiday Weekend – From Sacramento’s Nu Digital Media Division

Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (May 30 in 2011). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates men and women who died while in military service to the United States. First enacted to honor Union and Confederate soldiers following the American Civil War, it was extended after World War I to honor Americans who have died in all wars. Memorial Day often marks the start of the summer vacation season, and Labor Day its end.

Mothers Day History & Lesson- “Happy Mothers Day!”

Mother’s Day continues to be one of the most commercially successful U.S. occasions. According to the National Restaurant Association, Mother’s Day is now the most popular day of the year to dine out at a restaurant in the United States The modern Mother’s Day is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in March, April, or May as a day to honor mothers and motherhood.

The United States celebrates Mother’s Day on the second Sunday in May. Julia Ward Howe first issued her Mother’s Day Proclamation in 1870 as a call for women to join in support of disarmament. In the 1880s and 1890s there were several further attempts to establish an American Mother’s Day, but these didn’t succeed beyond the local level. The current holiday was created by Anna Jarvis in Grafton, West Virginia, in 1908 as a day to honor one’s mother. Jarvis wanted to accomplish her mother’s dream of making a celebration for all mothers, although the idea didn’t take off until she enlisted the services of wealthy Philadelphia merchant John Wanamaker. She kept promoting the holiday until President Woodrow Wilson made it an official national holiday in 1914. The holiday eventually became so highly commercialized that many, including its founder, Anna Jarvis, considered it a “Hallmark Holiday“, i.e. one with an overwhelming commercial purpose. Jarvis eventually ended up opposing the holiday she had helped to create. She died in 1948, regretting what had become of her holiday. In the United States, Mother’s Day remains one of the biggest days for sales of flowers, greeting cards, and the like; it is also the biggest holiday for long-distance telephone calls.

Social Media A Full Time Job

It is hard enough to send out a blog post everyday let alone make sure that you are keeping up with all of your relationships online. There is a lot more to social media marketing than just creating a fan page and just opening up a Twitter account.

If you create a bunch of profiles, offer valuable content, and you never respond to any of your followers that send you direct messages, your strategy could potentially backfire.  It is no different than you getting a voice message from a friend and you not calling back for a week. You must reach out and connect with your following keeping the relationships going.

Content is another challenge. Its is difficult knowing what to push out on your blogs, Twitter, and fan pages. You want to write quality content over quantity about you and your business to simply keep the attention of your readership. Consider subscribing to blogs, forums, or reading books to gather information to assist you in material to post. We know that for years businesses have compiled surveys and testimonials received from customers that have share past buying experiences and are a great source of material to share. If you brainstorm a little you can find material to share online.

Social Media Strategy?; Get Help or Train

Have you prepared your social media strategy for 2010? Are you a little overwhelmed with all the  information about social media and don’t know where to start? You can always hire someone to create, manage, and drive your online marketing. In most cases, it makes more sense to externally have a team focus on your social media marketing as it can and will be overwhelming. Having an internal employee manage your media but at the end of the day has more responsibilities than one.  Social media needs a lot of attention to detail is your company is going to succeed and market right.

Why do you need a social media strategy? There are over 400 million Facebook subscribers. Twitter was the #1 word used in the entire English dictionary for all of 2009. It was also just announced that Bill Gates gained 100,000 followers in a short 8 hours of subscribing. People are not going online to use these powerful social tools, people are already online using these tools. The masses think that social media is a buzz word or some type of fad. Wrong! Social media is now a fundamental shift if the way that we communicate.

It is simple; people are hanging out online and your business needs to be online. It is said, and now old news ,that over 85% of consumers go online for products and services. Your products and services need to be online. If you are not online, or at least found online, it is like having a brick and mortar business with inventory but never turn the neon sign on and let customers in to shop. You might as well just thrown the towel in and get out of the game.

Consider the following:

  1. Just Get Started – Starting is better than not. We highly suggest number two with a consultation because you at least want to start correctly.
  2. A Consultation- As every business differs and has their own unique style, it is crucial to first figure out the needs of the business, your market, the message, and draft all expectations of such marketing campaign or strategy. When choosing a company or a professional that is your potential “hired help” has been engaged for more that 30 days or 6 months and are calling themselves the “social media expert”. Consider companies such as Nu Digital Media Group, a social media company that provides free consultations for all industries.
  3. Outsource or Go Internal – Are you going to outsource your social media marketing or  are you going to have an internal employee taught? Think about the cost involved with hiring some internal. If you can budget hiring a professional great. If it makes more sense to outsource than so be it.
  4. Everyone Needs to be On board -From the top down, everyone needs to be on board.
  5. Don’t Expect Over Night Successes – It takes time to build communities that want to  follow your brand.  When posting videos, text, photographs, and marketing material online it takes time for the crawlers to crab the content and circulate the material within the Internet.

Social medial works, people  and impropper implemented systems don’t work. Having the right people, do the right job, using the right tools, your social media will work for your company. Having of winning is making the decision to start.

Social Media Strategies Gain Massive Results

We are so very excited to see the results that we are getting with social media. Finally, businesses can maximize their brand exposure, compete with the big dogs sort of speak, and reduce expenses from traditional media that just no longer works. Google analytics prove that customers are online and the websites that are linked to the analytical reporting are showing the numbers in a big way.

Just a thought: When Bill Gates joined Twitter last week over 100,000 followers elected to follow Bill in an 8 hour window. Imagine have a following of just 20,000 in lets say Sacramento, California. Your business is parked right in the middle of the city and you send a Tweet or message to your following. What would your promotion or special look like? Do you think that you could get your message across to your audience in a timely manner?
.
More and more success stories get posted on an ongoing and daily basis that to keep up is just silly. Cheers to all those who grasp the social media concept and are also enjoying the massive results for their marketing strategies.
